Attorneys wishing to be permanently admitted to practice in the Eastern District of Tennessee must submit to the Clerk's Office:
The applications are forwarded to a Standing Committee on Admissions. Each Committee is comprised of prominent local attorneys who rigorously review each application and make a recommendation to the District Judge on whether the attorney should be admitted or denied.
Once the applications have been sent to the Standing Committee, a letter will be sent to the applicants notifying them of the progress of their applications and the date and time of the ceremony.
A fall and spring ceremony is held each year in the Chattanooga, Greeneville and Knoxville divisions.
Applicants who are unable to attend their scheduled ceremony will be deferred to the next ceremony. However, if an applicant misses multiple ceremonies, he or she may be required to submit another application and another $200 fee.
On occasion, and with approval of the District Judge, a special admission for an individual attorney will be allowed.
